Characteristics

Evergreen, semi-prostrate to erect spinescent shrub to 2 m high, simple-pubescent. Leaves discolorous; lamina linear to narrowly obovate or elliptic, 4–13 (–25) mm long, 0.7–4 mm wide, obtuse to cuneate at base, recurved to revolute, entire to deeply lobed margin, acute to obtuse at apex, glabrous to sparsely pubescent above, sparsely to densely pubescent beneath with patent or antrorse hairs; petiole 0.3–1.5 mm long; stipules 0.7–1.5 mm long. Pedicels 1.2–4.5 mm long. Flowers white, sometimes pink, usually glabrous. Sepals 1.5–2.5 mm long, spreading. Petals 1.3–1.6 mm long, deeply clawed. Stamens 1.4–1.5 mm long. Disc c. 1.9 mm in diam. Style 0.4–1.5 mm long, 3-lobed. Fruit 7–8 mm long, beak c. 1 mm long. Seed 3.5–4 mm long, aril red-brown.
