Characteristics

Straggling shrub 0.3-1.0 m high, 2-4 m across. Leaves oblong-ovate in gross outline, 2-6 cm long, 15-50 mm wide, deeply and regularly pinnatipartite with 5-13 primary lobes each entire to 5-fid or-dentate, occasionally a few tertiary teeth or lobes; ultimate lobes rather divaricate, triangular to subulate, 2-25 mm long, 0.5-2 mm wide, usually pungent; margins recurved; lower surface usually with a loose indumentum of ascending to erect wavy to curly hairs concentrated about midvein. Unit conflorescence erect (sometimes on pendent peduncles) or decurved, secund; floral rachis 35-50 mm long. Flower colour: perianth reddish brown; style red with yellow tip. Perianth tomentose to subsericeous outside. Pistil 13.5-15.5 mm long; ovary stipitate; style glabrous. Follicle 9.5-11.5 mm long, subsericeous to subvillous.
