Characteristics

Small tree or shrub up to 4.5 m tall; young branches densely coarsely stellate-pubescent, sometimes ferruginous.. Leaves ovate, broadly elliptic or oblong, 1.5–7 cm long, 1.3–4 cm wide, broadly obtuse to rounded at the apex, truncate to slightly cordate or asymmetric at the base, margin clearly serrate to crenate-serrate, sparsely stellate-hairy above, densely whitish stellate-pubescent beneath, the veins slightly browner; petiole 2–6 mm long, densely stellate-pubescent; stipules elliptic to subulate, 5–7 mm long.. Inflorescence a 3-flowered cyme, solitary or rarely 2 in the leaf axils, the axes densely coarsely pubescent; peduncle 7–13 mm long; pedicels 6–9 mm long.. Flowers yellow; sepals 8–10 mm long; petals ovate to obovate, 4–6 mm long, 2–3.5 mm wide, sometimes bifid.. Androgynophore 1–1.5 mm long, glabrous, densely hairy at the apex.. Stamens 4–5 mm long.. Ovary 1.5–2 mm long, densely hairy; style ± 4 mm long.. Fruit 2-lobed, or unlobed by abortion, the lobes 5–6 mm long, 5–6 mm wide, covered with long brown hairs.. Fig. 4/39 (leaf, p. 11).
