Shrub or small tree, sometimes scandent, up to 9 m tall; young branches glabrescent, dark greyish brown with pale lenticels.. Leaves obovate-elliptic to elliptic, sometimes quite broadly so, 1.1–7 cm long, 0.6–3.6 cm wide, acute, obtuse or rounded at the apex, rounded and sometimes slightly asymmetric at the base, margins serrate to crenate, concolorous and glabrous except for a few scattered hairs on the veins, especially when young; petiole 1.5–5 mm long, with a few scattered minute greyish stellate hairs; stipules linear, 2–3 mm long.. Inflorescence a 1–3-flowered cyme, 1(–2) in a leaf-axil; peduncle 7–13 mm long, slender; pedicels 4–7 mm long, slender.. Flowers yellow, buds greyish tomentellous; sepals 5–8 mm long; petals 3–4 mm long.. Androgynophore glabrous for 0.5 mm, produced above and densely hairy for 0.5 mm.. Stamens 4–5 mm long.. Ovary 0.5–1 mm long, densely hairy; style 2–3 mm long.. Fruit 2-lobed, or unlobed by abortion, the lobes 3–4 mm long, ± 3 mm wide, sparsely hairy, reddish to golden yellow.. Fig. 4/46 (leaf, p. 11).
