Characteristics

Shrub up to 2.5 m tall; old branches grey-black and glabrous, young shoots densely stellate-pubescent.. Leaves obovate to elliptic, 0.6–3.2 cm long, 0.5–2 cm wide, rounded at the apex, rounded to cuneate at the base, margins serrate to sharply denticulate, glabrous to minutely sparsely pubescent or glabrescent, glaucous; petiole 1.5–7 mm long, sparsely stellate-pubescent; stipules triangular, up to 2.5 mm long.. Inflorescence a solitary flower; peduncle and pedicel together appearing like a jointed pedicel, 3–13 mm long, pubescent.. Flowers white; sepals 7–10 mm long; petals narrowly lanceolate, 5–8 mm long, 0.5–1 mm wide, tapered towards the acute apex.. Androgynophore glabrous for ± 1 mm at the base, pubescent and produced for up to 1 mm above the node.. Stamens 5–6 mm long.. Ovary ± 1 mm long, stellate-pubescent; style 5–6 mm long.. Fruit (1–)4-lobed, 8–12 mm wide, the lobes 4–7 mm long, 4–6 mm wide, pale orange to red, sparsely hairy to glabrescent.. Fig. 3/4 (leaf, p. 9).
