Characteristics

Small tree or shrub to 6 m tall; young branches densely ferruginous stellate-pubescent.. Leaves ovate to elliptic, 1.5–7.5 cm long, 1–4.6 cm wide, acute to acuminate at the apex, rounded to obliquely truncate or slightly cordate at the base, margin coarsely and irregularly serrate, densely stellate-pubescent above, even more so beneath; petiole 2–3 mm long, densely ferruginous pubescent; stipules subulate to linear, 5–7 mm long.. Inflorescence a (1–)3-flowered cyme, 1–2 in a leaf-axil, covered with a dense ferruginous pubescence; peduncle 4–11 mm long; pedicels 4–13 mm long.. Flowers yellow to orange; sepals 7–10 mm long; petals obovate, 4–7 mm long, 2.5–3 mm wide, apically notched or acute.. Androgynophore glabrous for 1–2 mm, densely pubescent at apex.. Stamens 5–6 mm long.. Ovary ± 2 mm long, densely hairy; style 5–6 mm long.. Fruit 2-lobed, or unlobed by abortion, the lobes 6–8 mm long, 6–8 mm wide, with long hairs.. Fig. 4/53 (leaf, p. 11).
