Characteristics

Leaf-lamina 2·5–9 × 1·5–5 cm., narrowly obovate to narrowly oblong-obovate, apex abruptly acuminate to cuspidate, margin denticulate to denticulate-crenate, the base rounded and more or less symmetrical, minutely stellate-pilose above or glabrous, densely brownish-stellate-pubescent below, at least when young; petiole up to 5 mm. long; stipules c. 3 mm. long, linear-lanceolate, caducous, setulose-pubescent.

Inflorescences terminal or opposite the leaves; peduncle 2–3 mm. long, 3–5-flowered, stellate-pubescent; pedicels up to 8 mm. long, with short stellate hairs and some longer fasciculate-stellate hairs; bracts 2–3 mm. long, narrowly lanceolate, setulose-pubescent on the back.
Sepals c. 14 × 3·5 mm., linear-oblong, apex acute, somewhat thickened, tomentose outside with dense, shortly-stellate hairs and scattered longer fasciculate-stellate hairs, tomentellous within towards the apex and margins.
Petals white; lamina c. 5 × 4 mm., ovate, subacute at the apex, with a circumvillous nectary at the base 1·5 × 1 mm. ledged above and glabrous at the back.
Shrub or small tree; branchlets at first brownish-stellate-pubescent, later becoming glabrous; lenticels greyish and slightly tubercular.
Androgynophore with a glabrous basal portion c. 1·5 mm. long, prolonged above into a pubescent upper portion c. 1 mm. long.
Style 7–8 mm. long, glabrous, stigmatic lobes broad and flattened.
Ovary 4-lobed, densely villous, with 4 ovules per loculus.
Flower-buds ovoid.
