Characteristics

Shrub to 3 m tall; young branches glabrous.. Leaves narrowly obovate, 1.3–5.5 cm long, 0.5–2.5 cm wide, rounded to acute or slightly acuminate at the apex, rounded to cuneate at the base, margins serrate, glabrous; petiole 4–5 mm long, glabrous.. Inflorescence a solitary flower; peduncle and pedicel together appearing like a jointed pedicel, 1.8–4.5 cm long, glabrous; bracts linear, up to 3 mm long.. Flowers white; sepals 13–18 mm long, pinkish to dull purplish on the outside; petals oblong, 9–18 mm long, 2–3 mm wide.. Androgynophore glabrous for ± 1.5 mm at the base, pubescent above but barely produced up to 0.5 mm.. Stamens 7–10 mm long; filaments white.. Ovary 1–1.5 mm long, densely hairy; style 7–11 mm long.. Fruit (1–)4-lobed, 9–11 mm wide, the lobes 5–6 mm long, 4–5 mm wide, orange to brownish, sparsely hairy to glabrescent.. Fig. 3/5 (leaf, p. 9).
