Characteristics

Shrub or small tree up to 4.5 m tall; young branches ± glabrous or with a few scattered stellate hairs.. Leaves elliptic to elliptic-oblong, ovate or obovate, 2.2–11.5 cm long, 1.2–5.8 cm wide, obtuse to acute, sometimes rounded or acuminate, at the apex, rounded or slightly cordate at the base, margin serrate, ± glabrous above, glabrous beneath except for a few scattered minute stellate hairs and a few longer ones when young, slightly silvery, especially beneath, membranaceous; petiole 2–7 mm long, with a few scattered minute stellate hairs; stipules up to 6 mm long.. Inflorescence a 3–11-flowered terminal or leaf-opposed axillary cyme, axes covered with a sparse yellowish green short stellate pubescence; peduncle 4–12 mm long; pedicel 8–15 mm long.. Flowers white; sepals 10–14 mm long; petals obovate, 6–9 mm long, 3.5–5 mm wide.. Androgynophore glabrous for 0.5–1 mm at the base, densely hairy at the apex but not produced above.. Stamens 6–10 mm long.. Ovary ± 1 mm long, densely yellowish hairy; style 6–7 mm long.. Fruit (1–)4-lobed, 10–13 mm wide, the lobes obovoid, 5–7 mm long, 4–6 mm wide, 3–4 mm high, scattered with long hairs.
