Characteristics

Shrub, sometimes scandent up to 3 m tall; young branches shortly greyish to brown stellate-pubescent.. Leaves elliptic-oblong to obovate, 1.1–5.4 cm long, 0.4–4 cm wide, broadest towards the apex, broadly obtuse, rounded or ± truncate at the apex, cuneate to rounded or even slightly cordate at the base, margins irregularly and shallowly crenate or dentate to ± entire, scabrid to glabrescent above, roughly stellate-pubescent beneath, subcoriaceous; petiole 2–5 mm long, shortly greyish to brown stellate-pubescent.. Inflorescences terminal and leaf-opposed axillary 6–24-flowered cymes; peduncle 1–4 cm long; pedicel up to 6 mm long, shortly greyish to brown stellate-pubescent.. Flowers white to pale greenish cream; sepals 8–11 mm long, greyish pubescent on the outside; petals lanceolate, 3–6 mm long, 0.5–1 mm wide.. Androgynophore glabrous for up to 1 mm at the base, densely pubescent and slightly produced above the node for up to 1.5 mm.. Stamens 5–7 mm long; filaments white; anthers yellow.. Ovary 1–1.5 mm long, densely hairy; style 3–7 mm long, green.. Fruits (1–)4-lobed, 8–10 mm wide, the lobes 5–7 mm long, 4–6 mm wide, red-brown, with long hairs.. Fig. 3/14 (leaf, p. 9).
