Characteristics

Shrub 1–2 m high; branches thin, young shoots densely villous.. Leaves ovate to obovate, 1–4.5 cm long, 0.7–2.8 cm wide, rounded to acute at the apex, truncate to cuneate at the base, margin serrate with long hairs protruding from the teeth, pubescent above, densely stellate-pubescent beneath with villous hairs on the veins; petiole up to 4 mm long, densely villous; stipules ovate to lanceolate, up to 8 mm long.. Inflorescence a 1–4-flowered cyme.. Flowers greenish yellow to red; sepals 6–10 mm long, often with an appendage at the tip, densely villous on the outside, red to greenish yellow inside; petals 2–6 mm long, yellow.. Androgynophore glabrous.. Stamens 3–4 mm long.. Ovary ± 2 mm long, densely hairy; style 2–3 mm long, much divided at the apex.. Fruit unlobed, dull yellow, ± 12 mm in diameter, densely pubescent, with a crustaceous outer wall.. Fig. 3/23 (leaf, p. 9).
