Shrub or small tree to 7.5 m tall; young branches coarsely ferruginous-pubescent.. Leaves narrowly oblong to oblong-elliptic or oblong-obovate, the outline usually an evenly rounded oblong, 1.6–7.6 cm long, 0.7–3.2 cm wide, rounded to obtuse at the apex, rounded and very asymmetric at the base, margin ± entire to shallowly dentate or bluntly serrate, slightly inrolled and thickened, ± glabrous or sometimes sparsely minutely pubescent above especially when young, densely whitish pubescent beneath with brownish veins; petiole 2–11 mm long, coarsely stellate-pubescent; stipules subulate, up to 5 mm long.. Inflorescence a (1–)3-flowered cyme, 1–2 in a leaf-axil, the axes coarsely ferruginous pubescent; bracts ovate, 3–4 mm long, sometimes bifid; peduncle 4–13 mm long; pedicels 4–7 mm long.. Flowers yellow; sepals 7–9 mm long; petals oblong to obovate-oblong, 4–6 mm long, 1–2 mm wide, rounded to acute at the apex.. Androgynophore 0.5–1 mm long, glabrous, densely hairy at the apex, which is sometimes shortly produced up to 1 mm.. Stamens 4–6 mm long.. Ovary 1–1.5 mm long, densely hairy; style 4–6 mm long.. Fruit 2-lobed, or less often unlobed by abortion, the lobes 6–7 mm long, 5–6 mm in diameter, shortly stellate-pubescent, green turning yellowish red when ripe.. Fig. 4/38 (leaf, p. 11).
