Characteristics

Shrub or small tree up to 4.5 m tall; young branches shortly stellate-pubescent.. Leaves narrowly obovate, 1.1–3.2 cm long, 0.7–1.8 cm wide, rounded to ± truncate at the apex, tapered towards the rounded base, margin serrate, ± glabrous above with a few scattered minute stellate hairs, greyish tomentellous beneath; petiole 1.5–2 mm long, shortly stellate-pubescent.. Inflorescence a 2–6-flowered cyme, the axes shortly greyish green stellate-pubescent; peduncle 2–8 mm long; pedicel 4–10 mm long.. Flowers pale lilac to mauve or purple; sepals 9–13 mm long; petals broadly ovate, 4–8 mm long, 2.5–5 mm wide, acute at the apex.. Androgynophore glabrous for 1–1.5 mm at the base, pubescent and produced for 1–2.5 mm above the node.. Stamens 5–7 mm long.. Ovary 1–1.5 mm long, densely hairy; style 3–8 mm long.. Fruit (1–)4-lobed, 10–16 mm wide, the lobes 6–9 mm long, 6–9 mm wide, ± glabrous with a few scattered long hairs.
