Characteristics

Small tree or shrub to 4 m tall.. Leaves ovate to oblong-ovate, 2.5–9.3 cm long, 1.8–5.5 cm wide, acute to slightly acuminate at the apex, very asymmetric and obliquely rounded to truncate at the base, margins irregularly serrate, with scattered stellate hairs above, discolorous and densely whitish stellate-pubescent beneath with contrasting brownish veins; petiole 4–7 mm long, covered with a dense coarse ferruginous stellate pubescence.. Inflorescence a (1–)3-flowered axillary cyme, 1–3 in a leaf-axil, the axes densely coarsely ferruginous stellate-pubescent; peduncle 5–13 mm long; pedicels 5–9 mm long.. Flowers yellow; sepals 7–9 mm long; petals oblong, 3–5 mm long, ± 1.5 mm wide.. Androgynophore ± 1 mm long, glabrous, densely pubescent at the apex.. Stamens 4–5 mm long.. Ovary ± 2 mm long, densely hairy.. Fruit (not known from East Africa) nearly always 2-lobed, the lobes 6–8 mm long, 6–8 mm in diameter, with a few scattered long hairs.. Fig. 4/40 (leaf, p. 11).
