Characteristics

Shrub; stems distally densely leafy, densely finely tomentose.. Leaves alternate, elliptic to slightly ovate, 2-4 cm long, 0.6-1.4 cm wide, base cuneate, margins entire, apex acute, sparsely finely tomentose and glabrescent above, densely whitish crispate-tomentose beneath, main veins ending in glands.. Capitula in rather dense terminal corymbiform compound cymes to 3 cm long; stalks of individual capitula densely tomentose; involucre ovoid-cylindrical, 3.5-5 mm in diameter at flowering time; phyllaries 3-seriate, purple-margined and with dark tips, ovate, 3-7 mm long, shortly pungent.. Corolla densely pubescent on lobes and upper part of tube, 6-7 mm long, sparsely glandular, lobes 2.5-3 mm long.. Achenes (immature) turbinate, 2 mm long, ribbed, with a few hairs on the ribs at the apex, otherwise glabrous; pappus of ± 15 narrowly triangular, basally slightly connate, laciniate scales 1-2 mm long.
