Characteristics

Shrub 20-45 cm tall; stems densely branched with spreading branches, rather densely leafy, densely appressed-hairy.. Leaves narrowly elliptic, 1.5-4 cm long, 0.2-1 cm wide, base attenuate, margins revolute, apex subacute to obtuse, apiculate, silvery appressed-pubescent above, densely white-tomentose and glandular beneath.. Capitula in lax rather few-headed terminal corymbiform cymes; involucre shortly campanulate, 4 mm in diameter at flowering time; phyllaries 3-4-seriate, (narrowly) ovate, 3-9 mm long, obtuse to acute, shortly pungent, darker green in centre in upper part, paler and sometimes purplish-tinged on the hyaline margins, pubescent distally.. Corolla deep violet or purple, 4.5-5.7 mm long, shortly hairy and glandular, lobes 2-3 mm long.. Achenes shortly prismatic, 1.5-2 mm long, truncate, obtusely 4-5-angled, sometimes glandular, ascending-pubescent especially on the angles and below the apex, crowned with a rim of short spreading cilia; pappus absent.
