Leaves opposite, becoming alternate on the upper stem, sessile, 1–5.5 x 0.2–0.4 cm., linear, apex subobtuse mucronate, margins somewhat revolute; upper surface pilose-pubescent, the hairs T-shaped with the stalks becoming rigid, or the hairs long flagelliform, lower surface white-felted with short-stalked matted T-shaped hairs.
Phyllaries many, subulate to linear-lanceolate, tapering to a purple pungent tip, with ± obscured narrow scarious margins, white-lanate outside, the outer from c. 2 mm. long, the inner to c. 5 mm. long.
Capitula small, subsessile, in 1-numerous clusters; clusters 3–10-capitulate, ± congested, terminal on the stem and branches; capitula stalks 0–1 mm. long; subtending leaves overtopping the capitula.
Achenes dark-brown, c. 1.3 mm. long, narrowly obovoid, c. 10-ribbed, sparsely setulose, the bristles uncinate at apex, minutely globose glandular; pappus 0.
Stems simple to much branched, softly appressed-puberulous; indumentum of short-stalked long-armed matted T-shaped hairs.
Corollas purple, 3–5 mm. long, funnel-shaped, densely white pilose-pubescent, the hairs short-stalked T-shaped.
An erect slender to bushy annual herb, 10–25 cm. tall.
Involucres 3–5.5 x c. 5 mm., obconic-campanulate.
