Characteristics

Much branched shrub, 0.6-2.4 m tall; stem striate, pubescent to tomentose, glabrescent, eglandular trichomes T-shaped and medifixed. Leaves alternate, petiolate, ovate to oblong-elliptic, 10-35 x 4-20 mm, apex obtuse, base cuneate, margins serrate to coarsely serrate or dentate, upper surface sparsely pubescent and gland-dotted, glabrescent, dark green, under surface pubescent or tomentose to felted and gland-dotted, pale green, eglandular trichomes T-shaped and medifixed; petiole 3-5 mm long. Capitula in terminal corymbs on long peduncles 10-70 mm long, 3-flowered. Involucre cylindric, subglobose, 3.0-5.5 mm diam. when pressed; bracts in 4 or 5 series, imbricate, gland-dotted distally, margins ciliate, green with darker spot near tips, caducous, outer bracts ovate, 0.5-1 x 0.5 mm, median bracts oblong-elliptic, subacute, 5.0-6.0 x 1.0 mm Florets pale mauve to purple or white to creamy-white, corolla 6-7 mm long, gland-dotted, tube funnel-shaped, lobes linear-lanceolate, 3-5 mm long. Anthers sagittate with triangular apical appendages. Style up to 6 mm long, pilose distally and on branches, branches 1.5-2.0 mm long. Cypselas sub-cylindric, ±8-ribbed, 3.5-4.0 mm long, setulose and densely gland-dotted, mainly between ribs; pappus biseriate, outer scales linear, barbellate, 1-2 mm long, caducous, inner bristles barbellate, 4-6 mm long, slender, cream-coloured.
