Characteristics

Stem usually simple, 3.5-10 cm. high.. Scale-leaves sparse, triangular, acute, 0.5-1 mm. long.. Flowers white or ?blue, 1-7 in a lax bifid cyme, the first flower arising at the joint of the cyme-branches; cyme-branches up to 3 cm. long; bracts triangular-obovate, up to 1.5 mm. long, 0.6 mm. wide at base; pedicels 2-7 mm.. Perianth-tube dilated abruptly into a broad band towards the mouth, 2.5-5 mm. long; outer tepals thick, 3-lobed, mid-lobe obtuse, lateral lobes narrower, oblanceolate, free at the apex, 1-3 mm.; inner tepals reduced to minute scales.. Anther-connective squarish, 0.3-0.4 × 0.4-0.5 mm.. Ovary obovoid, ±1.5 mm. long; placental glands small; style trifid, 1-1.7 mm.; stigma-lobes funnel-shaped, incurved, swollen, up to 0.4 mm. long, with filiform tails.. Fruit ellipsoid or obovoid, sometimes dehiscing irregularly, up to 4 × 1-3 mm.; crown of persistent part of the perianth-tube conical, 1-4 mm.. Seeds ovoid to subglobose, minutely arillate, 0.2 × 0.1 mm.. Fig. 2/6-10.
