Characteristics

Perennial herb 10–60 cm high, decumbent at base; rhizome spreading, or small tuber present; stem with a rosette of leaves at or a little above ground level, pubescent.. Leaves quite variable, the lowest ovate or suborbicular, 4–6 cm long, 3–4 cm wide, cuneate into a 2.5–5 cm long petioloid base, margins entire or remotely lobed-dentate, apex obtuse; middle leaves ovate, elliptic or lyrate, 11–23 cm long, lobed; upper leaves lyrate to pinnatisect, 6–25 cm long, 3–5 cm wide, with 1–4 pairs of lobes, the terminal lobe largest, base cuneate into a petioloid base or auriculate; all leaves green above, purplish beneath, glabrous or sparsely hairy.. Capitula 4–30 on a long peduncle with one to few bracts; stalks of individual capitula 1–2 cm long; involucre turbinate, 8.5–10 mm long; bracts of calyculus 1–4 mm long; phyllaries 12–14, 8.5–10 mm long, glabrous.. Florets yellow, 7–10 mm long, expanded in upper part, lobes 0.7–1.4 mm long.. Achenes 4 mm long when immature, glabrous; pappus 6–10 mm long.
