Characteristics

Terrestrial herb 15–50 cm. high.. Tubers not seen.. Leaves 4–7, very unequal, 1–2 lowest ones sheath-like, 1–2 at base of stem lanceolate-oblong, acute, up to 13 cm. long and 2.5 cm. broad, the upper ones much smaller, similar to the bracts.. Inflorescence slender, up to 16 cm. long, rather laxly up to 20-flowered.. Bracts broadly lanceolate, acuminate, the lower ones, and often all, longer than the flowers.. Flowers apparently in a single spiral row, suberect, green or yellowish-green; pedicel with ovary ± 1 cm. long.. Dorsal sepal incurved, convex, 2.7–3.7 mm. long; laterals deflexed, obliquely broadly lanceolate, acute, 3–4 mm. long; all sepals ciliolate.. Petals broadly lanceolate, back margin infolded, equalling the dorsal sepal and forming a helm with it.. Lip 3-lobed nearly to the base, the claw 0.5–1 mm. long, total length 3.5–4.5 mm.; lobes narrowly oblong, the middle lobe longer and broader than the spreading side lobes.. Spur pendent, slender, slightly swollen in the distal half, 10–16 mm. long.. Column short; anther-loculi parallel, canals very short; stigmas club-shaped, 1–2 mm. long, rostellum middle lobe broadly rounded and hooded, equalling the anther.
