Characteristics

A terrestrial herb, 2.5–5 dm. high.. Tubers ellipsoid or ovoid, 1.5–2 cm. long, ± 1 cm. in diameter.. Stem slender with scattered leaves.. Leaves 3–6, lowest sheath-like, remainder narrowly lanceolate or almost linear, shortly acuminate, up to 25 cm. long and 1.5 cm. broad, decreasing in size up the stem, the uppermost small, similar to the bracts.. Inflorescence 4–11 cm. long, rather laxly up to 13-flowered.. Bracts lanceolate, acuminate, shorter than the flowers.. Flowers suberect, green, yellowish-green or greenish-white; pedicel with ovary 8–15 mm. long.. Dorsal sepal ovate, ± acuminate, 4.5–7 mm. long; laterals spreading, very obliquely lanceolate or ovate, much curved, acuminate, 5.5–8.5 mm. long, a little broader than the dorsal.. Petals obliquely ovate, the upper margins crenate, toothed or ± folded, 5–7.5 mm. long, the apical part thickened and opaque.. Lip 9–15 mm. long, with a strap-shaped undivided part (claw) 2.5–6.5 mm. long, above this 3-lobed; middle lobe longer and broader than the divergent side lobes.. Spur pendent, swollen towards the apex, 9–12 mm. long.. Anther low with a distinct widened connective and separated sloping loculi, canals absent.. Stigmas club-shaped, ± pointed, 2–3.5 mm. long.. Rostellum middle lobe broad and rounded, the side lobes spreading, ± pointed, projecting beyond the anther for 1–1.5 mm.
