Characteristics

Erect terrestrial herbs up to 6.5 dm. tall, with leafy stems. Leaves 5-25 cm. long and 0.5-1.5 cm. broad, ensiform to linear-lanceolate, acute or acuminate. Inflorescence a many-flowered raceme; bracts 1-3 cm. long, lanceolate, acuminate. Dorsal sepal 6-8 mm. long and 4-6 mm. broad, ovate-orbicular, cucullate, obtuse or acute, apiculate. Lateral sepals 8-10 mm. long and 4-5 mm. broad, semi-lunate, acute, apicuilate. Petals bifid; posterior lobe 5-6 mm. long and 1.5-2 mm. broad, acute, arcuate; anterior lobe 6-9 mm. long and about 1 mm. broad, linear-filiform, acute, arcuate. Lip tripartite; the mid-lobe 7-10 mm. long and 1-2 mm. broad; lateral lobes 9-12 mm. long and 1-1.5 mm. broad, arcuate-spreading, acute; spur 40-50 mm. long, slender, subclavate.
