An orchid. It is an erect herb that grows 40-110 cm tall. The leafy stem has 9-13 leaves with the lowest ones sheathing the stem. The flowers are large and greenish white. The tubers are 4.5 cm long by 2.5 cm wide.
Leaves 9–13, rarely more, the lowermost 1–2 sheathing, the mid-stem leaves ± spreading, 7–22 × 3.5–9 cm, lanceolate, ovate or almost orbicular; the uppermost leaves grading into bracts.
Petals 2-lobed almost to base, upper lobe 17–25 mm long, less than 0.5 mm wide, filiform, adnate to dorsal sepal; lower lobe 50–90 mm long, c. 1 mm wide, curving forwards and upwards.
Dorsal sepal erect, 19–25 × 7–10 mm, elliptic, very convex; lateral sepals deflexed, 20–30 × 10–15 mm, rolled lengthwise.
Inflorescence 4–37 cm long, laxly 2–12-flowered; bracts 2–6.5 cm long, lanceolate, acute.
Stigmas 15–22 mm long, slender, truncate at apex, projecting forwards.
Anther erect, 7–10 mm high; canals 16–20 mm long, the tips upturned.
Robust terrestrial herb 50–130 cm tall, glabrous except for roots.
