Characteristics

A terrestrial herb 1.5–4.5 dm. high.. Stem rather flexuous, with scattered leaves.. Leaves 4–7, lowest 1 (or rarely 2) sheath-like, middle ones oblong-lanceolate or narrowly lanceolate, acute, up to 14 cm. long and 2.5 cm. broad, decreasing in size up the stem, uppermost bract-like.. Inflorescence 5–11 cm. long, rather loosely 5–20-flowered.. Bracts lanceolate, acuminate, the lower ones equalling or longer than the flowers.. Flowers suberect, yellowish or green; pedicel with ovary 8–17 mm. long.. Dorsal sepal inclined forwards, ovate or elliptical-ovate, obtuse, 7–8 mm. long, 4.5–6 mm. broad; laterals deflexed, obliquely lanceolate-ovate, subacute, about as long as but narrower than the dorsal; margins of sepals ciliolate.. Petals obliquely ovate, sometimes with a small tooth on the outer margin, 7–8 mm. long, about as broad as the dorsal sepal.. Lip 3-lobed in the upper half, 11–15 mm. long, the undivided part strap-shaped; lobes narrow, the side lobes longer and narrower than the middle lobe and diverging from it.. Spur pendent, swollen in the apical half, 7–10 mm. long.. Anther with a broad low curved connective and almost horizontal separated loculi, canals slender, projecting, 2–2.5 mm. long.. Stigmas club-shaped, truncate, 2.5–3.5 mm. long.. Rostellum middle lobe very broad, triangular, not very obvious.
