Species

Angiosperms > Asparagales > Orchidaceae > Habenaria

Characteristics

Plants slender to fairly robust, leafy in the centre with a rather bare lower part, 280-700 mm; leaves cauline, 8-15, spreading, acute, 80-160 x 20-37 mm, the upper 2-3 smaller, lanceolate, acuminate. Inflorescences lax, many-flowered; bracts lanceolate, acuminate, to 15 mm long; pedicel 2-4 mm long, ovary curved, 6-12 mm long. Flowers green. Median sepal erect, concave, broadly elliptic to ovate, obtuse, 3.5-5.5 mm long; lateral sepals deflexed, obliquely ovate to lanceolate, subacute, 3.5-6 mm long. Petals bipartite nearly to the base; upper lobe erect, narrowly oblong, as long as the median sepal and adherent to it; lower lobe ascending, linear, slightly longer and narrower than the upper, 4-6.5 mm long. Lip tripartite from near the base, lobes linear, acute, 4-6.5 mm long; midlobe broader and usually shorter than the side lobes; spur somewhat thickened in the middle then tapering, 8-15 mm long. Anther emarginate, c. 1.5 mm tall; canals c. 1 mm long; stigmatic processes narrowly clavate, adpressed to the lip, 1.5-2 mm long; central rostellum lobe triangular, c. 0.5 mm long.
More
Terrestrial herb, geophyte, slender, 0.28-0.70 m high; with globose root tubers. Leaves several to many, cauline, elliptic, membranous, spreading, 70-120 x 20-40 mm. Inflorescence lax, racemose; flowers 12-30, resupinate, green, centre whitish. Sepals unequal. Petals divided, spreading; lower anterior lobes, 4-6 mm long, longer and narrower than posterior lobe. Lip 3-lobed, midlobe 4-7 mm long, 2 side lobes shorter, spreading, reflexed; spur 8-15 mm long, thicker in middle. Flowering time Jan.-Apr. Narrower than posterior lobe. Lip 3-lobed, midlobe 4-7 mm long, 2 side lobes shorter, spreading, reflexed; spur 8-15 mm long, thicker in middle. Flowering time Jan.-Apr.
Lip 3-lobed almost to base, mid-lobe 5–8 × c. 1 mm, linear; side lobes slightly longer and narrower, curving upwards like anterior petal lobes; spur 9–15 mm long, inflated in the middle, parallel to ovary.
An orchid. It is a slender plant 25-100 cm tall. It is leafy in the middle of the stem. The flowers are small and green on long stalks. The flowering shoots are 11-30 cm long by 3-4 cm wide.
Terrestrial herb, up to 0.7 m tall. Lip 3-lobed, 6-7 mm long, lobes subequal. Anterior lobe of petal longer and narrower than posterior lobe. Spur 12-15 mm long. Flowers green and white.
Petals 2-lobed ± to base; posterior lobe 4–7 × 1–1.5 mm, linear, ± adnate to dorsal sepal; anterior lobe 5–9 mm long, less than 0.5 mm wide, narrowly linear, curving up.
Inflorescence 11–30 × 3–4 cm, fairly laxly (occasionally densely) many-flowered; bracts 10–20 mm long, usually shorter than the flower.
Leaves spreading, the mid-cauline largest and 10–16 × 3–5 cm, oblanceolate, acute, dark green, the base clasping the stem.
Stem leafy, with c. 7–15 leaves, the 2–3 lowermost sheath-like, the lowermost foliage leaf 15–20 cm from the base.
Dorsal sepal 4–7 × 3–5 mm, ovate, erect, convex; lateral sepals 5–7.5 × 2–4 mm, obliquely lanceolate, spreading.
Ovary and pedicel 11–15 mm long, arched so that flower is held ± horizontally.
A slender terrestrial herb, 1-31/2 ft. high, leafy in the middle of the stem
Terrestrial herb 30–90 cm high with ovoid, ± woolly tubers c. 2 cm long.
Stigmatic arms 1.5–2.5 mm long, clavate, appressed to lip.
Numerous small green flowers in a long loose raceme
