Characteristics

A terrestrial herb 3–5.5 dm. high, glabrous except for the roots.. Tubers globose or ovoid, 1.5–3 cm. long, 1.5–2 cm. in diameter, densely tomentose.. Stem erect, slender or rather stout, leafy along its whole length.. Leaves 11–17, almost erect or slightly spreading, ± imbricate; lowest 3 or 4 sheath-like, ± funnel-shaped, the remainder lanceolate, acute or acuminate, the largest 3–7.5 cm. long, 1–2 cm. broad, the uppermost similar to the bracts and usually overlapping the base of the inflorescence.. Inflorescence 8–17 cm. long, 2–4 cm. in diameter, densely 8–18-flowered.. Bracts lanceolate, very acute, 2–4.5 cm. long, frequently overtopping the flowers.. Flowers nearly erect, green or greenish-yellow, the centre white or whitish; pedicel with ovary slightly curved, 14–23 mm. long.. Dorsal sepal erect, ovate or broadly ovate, acute or apiculate, very convex, 6–10 mm. long, 4–7 mm. broad; laterals deflexed, obliquely lanceolate, acute, 8–13 mm. long, 2–5.5 mm. broad.. Petals bipartite nearly to the base; posterior (upper) lobe erect, linear or lanceolate, much curved, acute, 7–10.5 mm. long, 1–4 mm. broad; anterior lobe curved upwards, linear or almost filiform, often twisted, 6.5–12 mm. long, usually ± 0.5 mm. wide near the base, much more slender above.. Lip dependent, tripartite from an undivided base 1–2 mm. long; middle lobe linear, acute, 10–14 mm. long, 1–2 mm. broad; side lobes spreading, narrowly linear, about as long as the middle lobe but usually only half as broad.. Spur dependent, much swollen in the distal half, 1–2 cm. long.. Anther 2–5 mm. high, rounded, canals ± 1 mm. long, auricles 1-1.5 mm. long, shorter than the anther.. Stigmas deflexed on to base of lip, narrowly club-shaped, 2–3.5 mm. long.. Rostellum broadly triangular.
More
Inflorescence 6–17 × 1.5–4 cm, rather loosely to fairly densely 8-to many-flowered; bracts 20–55 mm long, lanceolate, acuminate, longer than the flowers at the base of, and usually throughout, the inflorescence.
Petals 2-lobed almost to base; posterior lobe erect, 5–11 × 1.5–2.5(4) mm, narrowly lanceolate; anterior lobe 6–14.5 mm long, 0.5–1 mm wide at the base, becoming ± filiform, spreading and curving upwards.
Lip 3-lobed to 1.5–2 mm from base; mid-lobe 10–14 × 1–2 mm, linear; side lobes similar to lower petals lobes, 9–14 mm long; spur dependent, 1–2 cm long, much swollen in apical half.
Leaves 9–17, imbricate, the lowermost 2–4 sheath-like, the uppermost bract-like, the rest erect or spreading, the largest 2.5–7.5 × 1.5–4 cm, lanceolate, acute.

Terrestrial herb 30–55 cm high, with tomentose, globose or ellipsoid tubers 1–3 cm long.
Auricles as long as, or shorter than the anther, sometimes shortly stalked.
Stigmatic arms 2–3 mm long, clavate, deflexed on to lip base.
