Characteristics

A terrestrial herb 2-4 dm. high, almost glabrous except for the roots.. Tubers ellipsoid, 1.5 cm. long, 1.2 cm. in diameter, tomentose.. Stem erect, rather robust, leafy throughout its length.. Leaves 5–8, suberect, lowermost reduced to sheaths, the remainder lanceolate or ovate-lanceolate, acute or obtuse, the largest 6–8 cm. long and 1.5–4 cm. broad, decreasing in size up the stem, the uppermost similar to the bracts.. Inflorescence 7–19 cm. long, 5–6 cm. in diameter, rather densely up to 20-flowered.. Bracts leaf-like, lanceolate, very acute, the lowest longer than the flowers, the upper ones equalling them.. Flowers suberect, dull yellow or greenish-white with a yellow tinge; pedicel with ovary 1.5–2 cm. long.. Dorsal sepal erect, lanceolate-elliptical, obtuse, convex, nearly 2 cm. long, ± 1 cm. broad; laterals spreading, obliquely lanceolate, acute, ± 1.7 cm. long and 7.5 mm. broad.. Petals erect, entire, adherent to the dorsal sepal, curved, ligulate or lanceolate-ligulate, subacute, ±1.7 cm. long, 3.5–6 mm. broad, ciliolate or ciliate.. Lip projecting forwards, tripartite from an undivided strap-shaped base ± 3.5 mm. long; middle lobe linear-ligulate, obtuse, 1–1.5 cm. long, 1.5 mm. broad; side lobes diverging at the base but incurved a little towards their apices, ligulate but widened a little from the base, bearing 10–14 finger-like lobules up to 6 mm. long along the outer margins, very shortly hairy.. Spur dependent, slightly S-shaped, slightly swollen in the apical part, ±1.5 cm. long.. Anther-connective horseshoe-shaped, ± 4–6 mm. long, higher in front than at the back, the loculi at each end but close together in position, 4 mm. long, canals slender, suberect, ± 3.5 mm. long.. Stigmatic arms shortly attached to lower part of the rostellum and curving upwards in front, ± 1 cm. long, slender in the lower part, much swollen in the upper half, hollowed out on the upper surface..
