Characteristics

A usually epiphytic herb, rarely found in ground-level humus, up to 6 dm. high.. Tubers variously shaped, pubescent, with stout velamen-covered roots.. Stem erect, leafy throughout its length, the leaf-bases sheathing.. Leaves on lower part of stem lanceolate to narrowly ovate, up to 30 cm. long, 5.5 cm. broad, the upper leaves closely resembling bracts.. Inflorescence up to 35-flowered, rather dense, up to 15 cm. long.. Bracts lanceolate to ovate, acute, up to 3–5 cm. long, 6 mm. broad.. Flowers white, with tepals green at their apices.. Dorsal sepal ovate, up to 12 mm. long, 7 mm. broad; laterals obliquely ovate, up to 12 mm. long, 6.5 mm. broad.. Petals ovate-oblong, almost as long and broad as the sepals.. Lip 3-lobed from an undivided oblong base; side lobes linear, up to 27 mm. long; middle lobe a little broader and considerably shorter than the side lobes, up to 18 mm. long, 2 mm. broad.. Spur pendent, up to 11 cm. long, inflated in apical 1 cm.. Anther ± 5 mm. high, loculi parallel, canals slender, curved, as long as the stigmas.. Stigmas subclavate, up to 5 mm. long.. Rostellum middle lobe triangular, acute.
