Characteristics

A terrestrial herb 2.5–3.5 dm. high, glabrous except for the roots.. Tubers ovoid, 1–1.5 cm. long, 0.5–1 cm. in diameter, very sparsely tomentose-pilose.. Stem erect, slender, leafy along its whole length.. Leaves 7–9, the lowermost 2 sheath-like, the next 2 or 3 almost basal, suberect, lanceolate, acute, 4.5–5.5 cm. long, 8–14 mm. broad, the remainder smaller, ± adpressed to the stem, narrowly lanceolate, acuminate, up to 4.5 cm. long.. Inflorescence 6–9 cm. long, 3.5–4.5 cm. in diameter, rather loosely 4–7-flowered.. Bracts lanceolate, acuminate, 1–2 cm. long, much shorter than the pedicel with ovary.. Flowers curving outwards, probably green; ovary with pedicel curved, 2.5–3.5 cm. long.. Dorsal sepal erect, elliptical, obtuse, convex, 5mm. long, 3mm. broad; laterals decurved, obliquely obovate-oblong, 6 mm. long, 3 mm. broad.. Petals bipartite nearly to the base; posterior (upper) lobe adherent to the dorsal sepal, linear-lanceolate, nearly 5 mm. long, just over 1 mm. broad; anterior lobe similar but a little narrower.. Lip tripartite from a short undivided base; middle lobe dependent, ligulate, ± 8 mm. long and 1.5 mm. broad; side lobes divergent, curved upwards, not quite as long as the middle lobe and only half as wide.. Spur pendent, slightly swollen in the distal half, 2–3 cm. long.. Anther erect, nearly 4 mm. high, canals incurved, scarcely 1 mm. long.. Stigmas porrect, slightly club-shaped, 2 mm. long.. Rostellum shortly triangular, much shorter than the anther.
