Characteristics

Lip deflexed, 3-lobed almost to base; mid-lobe 10–17 mm long; side lobes 6–12 mm long; all lobes linear, 0.5–1.5 mm wide; spur 17–25 mm long, twisted in the middle, swollen in apical half, ± parallel to pedicel and ovary.

Petals 2-lobed almost to base; upper lobes somewhat recurved, often crossing, 5–6.5 mm long, less than 1 mm wide, linear; lower lobes spreading, hinged, 8–11 × 2–3.5 mm, lanceolate or oblong-lanceolate, subacute.
Sepals reflexed, turning brown and scarious at flowering time; dorsal sepal 4–6 × 2–2.5 mm, elliptic; lateral sepals 6.5–10 × 4–5.5 mm, obliquely obovate with a lateral apiculum.
Leaves 11–16, the 2 lowest loosely sheathing, the next few spreading, 12–25 × 2–5 cm, lanceolate; the upper leaves grading into the bracts.
Inflorescence up to 40 × 6 cm, densely many-flowered; bracts 15–35 mm long, scarious by flowering time.
Stigmatic arms porrect, 3–4 mm long, rather stout, the tips truncate.
Flowers yellow-green, white in centre, smelling unpleasant.
Anther 2.5–4.5 mm high; canals c. 2.5 mm long, upcurved.
Rostellum mid-lobe c. 2.5 mm long, triangular, acute.
Tubers 3–4.5 × 1–2 cm, ovoid or ellipsoid, woolly.
Pedicel and ovary 20–30 mm long, arched.
