Characteristics

A terrestrial herb 4–5 dm. high, glabrous except for the roots and petals.. Tubers ellipsoid or ovoid, ±1.5 cm. long and 1 cm. in diameter, densely tomentose.. Stem erect, rather slender, leafy throughout its length.. Leaves ± 12, the lowermost 2–3 reduced to sheaths which are white with green reticulate veining, the middle 5–6 suberect, linear, the largest 13–15 cm. long but only 7 mm. broad, the upper ones smaller, adpressed to the stem, lanceolate, similar to the bracts.. Inflorescence 6–11 cm. long, ± 4 cm. in diameter, rather closely 10–20-flowered.. Bracts lanceolate, acuminate, rather thin and chaffy, 1.5–2 cm. long, finely toothed, shorter than the pedicel with ovary.. Flowers suberect, green with a whitish centre; pedicel with ovary straight or slightly curved, ± 2 cm. long.. Dorsal sepal reflexed, narrowly elliptical, rounded at apex, convex, 6–7 mm. long, ± 2 mm. broad; laterals deflexed, obliquely semi-orbicular, the apiculum lateral, ± 8 mm. long and 4 mm. broad.. Petals bipartite nearly to the base; posterior (upper) lobe recurved, linear, 6–8 mm. long, ± 0.5 mm. broad, shortly ciliolate; anterior lobe projecting forwards, lanceolate, subacute, 9–12.5 mm. long and ± 2 mm. broad.. Lip deflexed, tripartite nearly to the base; middle lobe ± incurved, linear, obtuse, ± 12 mm. long and 0.5 mm. broad; side lobes lanceolate-linear, acute, 10–11 mm. long, a little broader than the middle lobe.. Spur incurved, swollen in apical half or third, 16–19 mm. long.. Anther erect, 4.5 mm. high with a narrower stalk nearly 2 mm. long, canals incurved, ± 1.5 mm. long.. Stigmas porrect, only slightly thickened at apex, ± 3 mm. long.. Rostellum narrowly triangular, acute, 1.5 mm. long.
