Characteristics

A terrestrial herb about 7 dm. high, glabrous except for the roots.. Tubers ellipsoid, 2 cm. long, ± 1 cm. in diameter, rather densely tomentose.. Stem erect, rather stout, leafy throughout its length.. Leaves 11–12, the lowermost 1–2 reduced to sheaths, the middle 6–7 suberect, ovate or lanceolate, acute, the largest 9 cm. long and 2.5 cm. broad, the upper ones lanceolate, smaller, similar to the bracts.. Inflorescence ± 30 cm. long, 4.5 cm. in diameter, rather loosely many-flowered.. Bracts lanceolate, acuminate, 1–1.5 cm. long, shorter than the pedicel with ovary.. Flowers curved outwards, white with brown veins; pedicel with ovary curved, ± 2 cm. long.. Dorsal sepal re-flexed, narrowly elliptical, obtuse, convex, ± 6 mm. long and 2.5 mm. broad; laterals deflexed, obliquely and narrowly obovate, apiculum lateral, ± 8 mm. long and 4 mm. broad.. Petals bipartite nearly to the base; posterior (upper) lobe reflexed, linear, ± 6 mm. long and 0.5 mm. broad; anterior lobe spreading forwards, lanceolate, linear, acute, 10–12 mm. long, 1 mm. broad.. Lip deflexed, tripartite from an undivided base 1–2 mm. long; middle lobe linear, obtuse, 10–12 mm. long; side lobes linear, acute, ± 8 mm. long; all lobes only 0.5 mm. broad.. Spur incurved, swollen in the apical half, ± 2 cm. long.. Anther distinctly stalked, the stalk 2 mm. long, the whole 3.5 mm. high, canals porrect, 4 mm. long.. Stigmas porrect, swollen and truncate at the very apex, ± 5 mm. long.. Rostellum short, scarcely 1 mm. long.
