Characteristics

Plant 100-140 cm tall. Basal leaves 2-4; lamina flat, 3-10 mm wide. Inflorescence paniculate, open; flowers in loose clusters of 2-5, well distributed along the divergent major branches; bracteoles opaque at base and along midline, red or brownish red, the midvein ±apparent, the margins thinner, rather broad; upper bracteole acute or obtuse, reaching ¼-½ of flower. Flowers 4.5-7 mm long, red or brownish red to pale brown. Sepals equal to or slightly longer than petals, occasionally a little shorter. Stamens equal; anthers versatile, borne in upper half of flower, the tips equalling or slightly below petal tips, 2-2.5 mm long. Style at anthesis equalling sepal and petal tips or exserted less than 1 mm.
