Characteristics

Plant 45-120 cm tall. Basal leaf usually 1, occasionally 2; lamina flat, 6-20 mm wide. Inflorescence paniculate; branches widely divergent, black; flowers grouped 2-5 together at top of inflorescence and on short branches lower in inflorescence; bracteoles opaque, black in centre, the venation obscure abaxially, with abrupt transition to the whitish, membranous margin; upper bracteole slightly shorter to longer than perianth tip. Flowers 10-11.5 mm long, black or greenish or brownish black. Sepals almost as long as petals. Stamens equal; anthers versatile, borne at c. middle of petals, 3.5-4.5 mm long. Style at anthesis slightly shorter than petals or slightly exserted.
