Characteristics

Plant 65-135 cm tall. Basal leaves 5-8; lamina flat, 2-5.5 mm wide. Inflorescence paniculate; branches widely divergent with flowers in clusters of 3-5 mainly at top of inflorescence or branches slightly to widely divergent with flowers many together in 1 to several dense, corymbose or non-corymbose clusters; bracteoles opaque, blackish in centre, the veins obscure abaxially, the margins undifferentiated or very narrow, blackish, membranous; upper bracteole acute, reaching ¼-½ of flower. Flowers 11-16.5 mm long, blackish. Sepals ¾ to almost as long as petals. Stamens equal; anthers versatile, borne above middle of petals, 3-5 mm long. Style at anthesis usually exceeding anthers, occasionally as long as them, shorter than or exceeding petal tips.
