Characteristics

Plant 50-190 cm tall. Basal leaves usually 4-12; lamina flat, 7-25 mm wide. Inflorescence paniculate, open; flowers grouped many together in 3-many globular or cylindrical clusters throughout the inflorescence; bracteoles opaque, green or greenish black in centre, the veins obscure abaxially, the margins narrow, membranous; upper bracteole obtuse, reaching to ⅓ or almost to tip of flower. Flowers 12-15.5 mm long, green or yellowish green basally, reddish or brownish black apically. Sepals more than ¾ as long as petals. Stamens equal; anthers versatile, borne at or slightly below middle of petals, 2.3-3.3 mm long. Style at anthesis exceeding anthers, ⅔ to nearly as long as petals.
