Characteristics

Plant 30-80 cm tall. Basal leaves 3 or 4; lamina terete or subterete, 1-1.8 mm diam. Inflorescence paniculate; branches divergent, ±dichotomous; flowers solitary or loosely grouped 2-5 together, concentrated at tips of main branches; bracteoles relatively translucent, brown and glaucous in centre, the veins often discernible but inconspicuous, the margins gradually differentiated, thinner; upper bracteole acute or obtuse, reaching to ovary or to 1-2 mm below flower. Flowers 4.5-5 mm long, brown or grey and glaucous outside, red inside. Sepals equalling or slightly shorter than petals. Stamens equal; anthers versatile, yellow, half or fully exserted from petals, 1.3-1.5 mm long. Style at anthesis c. equal to petals or slightly exserted, reaching base or middle of anthers.
