Characteristics

Perennial shrub, 0.5-1.0(-3.0) m high. Stems strongly branched, slightly woody. Leaves with blade linear to linear-lanceolate, 20-60 x 1.0-1.5 mm, apex acute, base attenuate, margins usually entire to weakly dentate; glabrous; bracts ovate to elliptic, 4-8 mm long, apex abruptly thinly elongating. Flowers: in spikes at ends of branches; corolla tube 8-13 mm long, lobes 1.0-1.5 mm long, white, yellow or orange with orange, red or reddish brown in throat; all year.

Leaves 10–45(70) x (0.5)1–3(5) mm., linear or less frequently linear-lanceolate, entire or occasionally faintly toothed, rarely distinctly so throughout length, glabrous, subfasciculate with smaller leaves in axils.
Corolla 8–12(15) mm. long, white with an orange to reddish-brown throat, tube 2.5–4 mm. long, limb to 8 mm. long, slender, glabrous; lobes 1–1.6 mm. long, oblong.
Stems erect, much branched; branches decurrent, densely leafy, minutely patent-or slightly retrorse-pubescent to subglabrous.
Inflorescence spicate with spikes (1.5)3–10(16) cm. long, not densely compacted-paniculate.
Bracts 2.5–4.5 mm. long, ovate, acuminate or apiculate, glabrous.
Calyx 3–5 mm. long, ovate, subobtuse, glabrous.
Capsule c. 4 mm. long, oblong in outline.
