Characteristics

Leaves simple, stalked, alternate, obovate-elliptic, or obovate-oblong, retuse, coriaceous, penninerved, pulverulent-glaucous beneath or on both sides; panicles terminal; pedicels, sepals, and petals outwardly pubescent; stamens 5-10; drupe very large, oblique, depressed-globose. Tree 12-15 feet high; diameter 3 to 4 feet. Bark rough, craggy. Wood resinous, hard. Leaves 1.5-2 inches or longer. Hermaphrodite flowers in panicles, the female ones in racemes. Flowers small, white. Fruit almost dry, rugulose, 1-celled, 1-seeded, 2/4-1 inch broad.
