Perennial, erect shrub, 0.6-1.0 m high. Leaves opposite-decussate or alternate, shortly petiolate, ± narrowly elliptic, base cuneate, apex acute. Flowers shortly pedicellate, solitary, bracteoles 2. Calyx broadly campanulate, 6-lobed, with long cornate appendages. Petals 6, shortly clawed, bright yellow, margins ± erose. Stamens 6, exserted. Ovary sessile; style ± 6 mm long; stigma broadly capitate. Capsule subcoriaceous, vertically 5-or 6-striate, splitting regularly along these lines. Seeds minute, many.
