Characteristics

Shrub 0.3–1.2 m high, much branched; stems appressed white-tomentose, the lower parts with marcescent leaves.. Leaves pale green, erect or slightly spreading, sessile, linear, 1–3 cm long, 1–2 mm wide, base slightly clasping, margins revolute, apex obtuse, white-tomentose on both surfaces but more densely so beneath.. Capitula 10–15 mm long, homogamous, few to many together in fairly dense terminal corymbose cymes; stalks of individual capitula 2–5 mm long; phyllaries shiny white, usually with pink tinge or pink base, lanceolate, 4–10 mm long, acute, glabrous; receptacle honeycombed.. Florets yellow, many, all hermaphrodite, but the outer ones smaller than the inner; tube cylindric, 2.8–3.8 mm long, lobes 0.3–0.4 mm long, anthers 1.4–1.7 mm long, style 3.5–3.8 mm long.. Achenes cylindric, 0.5–0.7 mm long, glabrous; pappus white, 3.5–4 mm long, with subplumose tips, caducous in small groups.
