Characteristics

Perennial herb, up to 300 mm high; tufted, stems slender, simple or sparsely branched; greyish white appressed-woolly, leafy throughout. Leaves: blade oblong or oblong-spathulate, 20(-30) x 3(-6) mm, apex obtuse or subacute, base broad, half-clasping, margins flat or subrevolute, both surfaces greyish white appressed-woolly. Heads disciform, campanulate, 4 x 3 mm, in compact, corymbose clusters at branch tips. Involucral bracts in ± 3 series, graded, imbricate, apex obtuse, inner ± equalling florets, not radiating, outer shorter, woolly at base, yellow, often washed pale brown, stereome divided. Receptacle epaleate, with fimbrils ± equalling ovaries. Flowers: female and disc florets 37-57, 13-23 female; corolla of disc florets funnel-shaped, yellow; Sep.-Feb. Fruit with cypsela (and ovary) glabrous. Pappus of many barbellate bristles, bases cohering by patent cilia.
