Perennial herb, up to 400 mm high, tufted; stems woody at base, closely greyish white-felted, densely leafy. Leaves: blade spathulate, oblong-spathulate or oblong, up to 25 x 6 mm, apex obtuse, of upper leaves acute, base half-clasping, both surfaces closely greyish woolly. Heads disciform, cylindric, ± 4.5 x 1.0 mm, many closely aggregated in corymbose panicles. Involucral bracts in ± 4 series, graded, closely imbricate, inner ± equalling florets, not radiating, tips acuminate, glossy, pale straw-coloured, stereome divided. Receptacle epaleate, smooth. Flowers: female and disc florets 4-6, 1-3 female; corolla of disc florets narrowly campanulate above, yellow; Dec.-May. Fruit with cypsela (and ovary) glabrous. Pappus of several barbellate bristles, bases with patent cilia, not cohering.

Flowers 4-6, 1-3 female, 2 or 3 bisexual, yellow. Flowering time Mar.-May. Pappus of several bristles, delicate. Cypselae 0.75 mm long.
