Characteristics

Creeping herb, with perennial creeping root, the stems to 20 cm long; stems near base obscured by leaf sheaths, more distally terete and white-tomentellous.. Leaves elliptic, the proximal ones fairly densely set (occasionally forming a rosette) and with a petiole to 2 cm long, the distal ones smaller, more distant and sessile, 1.5–7 cm long, 0.3–2 cm wide, base attenuate, or clasping and almost auriculate in distal leaves, margins entire, revolute in distal leaves, apex acute and mucronate, thin-pubescent above and glabrescent, white-or pale brown-tomentose beneath.. Capitula 8–11 mm long, ± 7 in lax corymbs, heterogamous; stalks of individual capitula 3–10 mm long; phyllaries white, imbricate, lanceolate, 3–9 mm long, obtuse, pubescent near the base; receptacle honeycombed.. Florets yellow, many; outer florets in several rows, narrowly cylindric, tube 1.5–1.7 mm long, lobes 0.1–0.2 mm long, style 1.8–2.1 mm long; inner florets many (more than outer), cylindrical or narrowly infundibuliform, tube 1.7–2.3 mm long, lobes 0.2–0.4 mm long, anthers 1–1.2 mm long, style ± 2.1 mm long.. Achenes cylindric, 0.4–0.6 mm long, glabrous; pappus white, 1.8–2.5 mm long, slightly subplumose distally, falling in groups.
