Leaves elliptic, the proximal ones fairly densely set (occasionally forming a rosette) and with a petiole to 2 cm long, the distal ones smaller, more distant and sessile, 1.5–7 cm long, 0.3–2 cm wide, base attenuate, or clasping and almost auriculate in distal leaves, margins entire, revolute in distal leaves, apex acute and mucronate, thin-pubescent above and glabrescent, white-or pale brown-tomentose beneath.. Capitula 8–11 mm long, ± 7 in lax corymbs, heterogamous; stalks of individual capitula 3–10 mm long; phyllaries white, imbricate, lanceolate, 3–9 mm long, obtuse, pubescent near the base; receptacle honeycombed..
