Characteristics

Shrub, 0.7–2.4 m high, sparsely branched; stem black, to 4 cm in diameter, branches very rigid, with marcescent leaves.. Leaves sessile, linear to narrowly elliptic, 1–3.3 cm long, 2–4 mm wide, base slightly tapered, margins revolute, apex acute and mucronate, thin-pubescent above (densely so on midrib), yellow-tomentose beneath.. Capitula 10–18 mm long, heterogamous, terminal in dense corymbs; stalks of individual capitula 2–25 mm long; phyllaries shiny white, lanceolate, 4–15 mm long, acute, glabrous; receptacle convex, honeycombed, with small protuberances around the edges of the cells.. Florets (colour?); outer florets very few, tube narrowly cylindrical, 2 mm long, lobes 0.3 mm long, style 2.4–2.5 mm long; inner florets many (several score), tube narrowly infundibuliform, 2.3–3.2 mm long, lobes 0.4–0.6 mm long, anthers 1.2–1.4 mm long, style 2.7–4 mm long.. Achenes ellipsoid, 0.9–1.1 mm long, glabrous; pappus white, 4–5 mm long, the bristles falling individually.
