Well-branched, ericoid shrublet, up to 0.6 m high, young branchlets white-tomentose, closely leafy. Leaves suberect, imbricate, 6-25 x 1 mm, linear, apex acute, mucronate, hooked, base broad, sessile, margins strongly revolute. Capitula cylindric, many in dense, terminal, corymbose panicles; involucral bracts in 5 or 6 series, graded, ovate-lanceolate, ± acute, straw-coloured, glossy, erect. Receptacle with fimbrils ± half as long as ovaries. Flowers 5-14. Flowering time Dec.-Mar. Pappus of many bristles, ± equalling corolla, bases nude, not cohering. Cypselae 1 mm long.

Erect, closely leafy shrublet to 60 cm. Leaves imbricate, linear, hooked, glabrous above, felted beneath, margins strongly revolute. Flower heads discoid, many in rounded corymbs, cylindric, straw-coloured, ± 6 x 2 mm, florets 5-15, ovary papillate-hairy.
