Characteristics

Perennial herb 0.2–0.6 m high; stems pinkish brown, branching, wiry, thinly white-pubescent but this layer glabrescent, exposing scabridulous glandular hairs.. Leaves green above, white-felted beneath, sessile, (ob-)lanceolate to linear, 1–4.5(–5.5) cm long, 0.1–0.9 cm wide, base slightly clasping, apex obtuse or acute and mucronate, densely glandular above and often slightly pubescent, white-tomentose beneath, the distal leaves sometimes only scabridulous-glandular on both surfaces.. Capitula 9–17 mm long, heterogamous, in terminal corymbose few-headed cymes; stalks of individual capitula 3–12 mm long, white-pubescent; phyllaries yellow or (outermost) tinged brown, multiseriate, ovate to lanceolate, 3–10 mm long, acute, glabrous; receptacle honeycombed.. Florets yellow; outer florets many, tube cylindric from a wider base, 1.8–2.2 mm long, narrowed just below the lobes, lobes 0.1–0.2 mm long and glandular, style 2–2.3 mm long; inner florets many, tube cylindric, 2.4–2.7 mm long, lobes 0.2–0.4 mm long and glandular, anthers 1.3–1.4 mm long, style 2.7–2.8 mm long.. Achenes ellipsoid, 0.4–0.6 mm long, glabrous; pappus whitish, 2–3 mm long, distally subplumose, caducous individually.. Fig. 86/4 (page 406), habit.
