Characteristics

Sarmentose shrub or scrambler, 0.5–3.6 m high; stems long, branched, white-tomentose becoming glabrous.. Leaves discolorous, silvery-white below, pungent, sessile, lanceolate, 3–11 cm long, 0.4–2.5 cm wide, base auriculate and semi-amplexicaul, margins entire, apex acuminate or acute, sparsely tomentose becoming subglabrous above (midrib and larger veins white-hairy), rarely with some glands, silvery-tomentellous beneath.. Capitula 3–4.5 mm long, heterogamous, in dense glomerules united in fairly dense subglobose terminal corymbs to 6 cm in diameter; stalks of individual capitula 1–5 mm long; phyllaries brown or brown-green, 3–4-seriate, unequal with the outermost smallest, ovate to lanceolate, 1.5–4 mm long, rounded, proximally villous (in the outer), distally sparsely glandular; receptacle alveolate and short-fimbriate.. Florets yellow to orange, 31–50; female florets 13–19, filiform, tube 1.8–2.5 mm long, lobes 0.1–0.3 mm long, style 2.5–4 mm long; inner florets 20–31, tube 2–3 mm long, lobes 0.4 mm long, anthers 1.3–1.4 mm long, style 3–4 mm long.. Achenes cylindrical, 0.5–0.7 mm long, glabrous; pappus white, 2–3 mm long, caducous in groups.
