Leaves of two kinds: rosette leaves narrowly obovate or spatulate, 3–10 cm long, 1.2–2(–3) cm wide, base semi-amplexicaul, margins entire, apex obtuse or acute and mucronate, thinly pubescent but glabrescent above, pale-tomentose beneath; stem leaves lanceolate to linear, 2–5.5 cm long, 0.3–0.8 cm wide, otherwise similar to rosette leaves, with a dense group of leaves just below the inflorescence.. Capitula 10–12 mm long, heterogamous, in dense almost sessile clusters of 2–3 often subtended by a few closely set leaves, these clusters solitary or in turn united into leafy corymbs; stalks of individual capitula up to 2 mm long; phyllaries silvery white, multiseriate, ovate to lanceolate, 3–10 mm long, margins entire or dentate, acute, glabrous or hairy and glandular on the stereome; receptacle honeycombed..
